Course Overview

A PE and School Sport Apprentice acts as a role model for young people and helps to shape a positive relationship with physical activity. This apprenticeship provides transferrable skills such as the planning, delivery, and review of PE and School Sport sessions, supporting with behaviour management, and the assessment of young people.

The aim of this qualification is to give learners the knowledge and skills in order to be able to support the delivery of PE and sports activities in a school sport environment under the direct supervision of a more qualified individual, in a safe, ethical and effective way. The PESS Apprentice would work alongside class teachers and other support staff within the school workforce in the delivery of PE and school sport.

The role includes curriculum delivery, competitions, off-site activities, and extracurricular provision. This is a school based role, and could be in the primary, special or secondary education sector.

Qualification Achieved

On completion of this apprenticeship, you will hold a Level 2 Apprenticeship in PE & School Sport.
Other qualifications achieved include:

  • L2 Certificate in Activity Leadership
  • L2 Certificate in Supporting Learning in PESS
  • L2 Award in Employment Awareness in Active Leisure and Learning
  • Level 1 Functional Skills Mathematics & English

Progression

The role may act as a gateway to further career and training opportunities, including, but not limited to:

  • Level 3 PE & School Sport Apprenticeship
  • Sports Coach
  • PE Practioner

Learning & Assessment

Apprentices will be assigned a dedicated tutor. The tutor will visit monthly in the workplace, as well as being on hand to support throughout the duration of the apprenticeship programme. The frequency of these sessions may be more, depending on the needs of the apprentice.

End Point Assessment

Each learner will undergo ongoing assessment throughout the duration of their programme. The methods in which this apprenticeship is assessed are:

  • Practical Observations
  • Portfolio Evidence

Hire an Apprentice

We can work with you to source a suitable applicant for your organisation or you can up-skill your existing employees. If the employee is under 19 and your business has fewer than 50 employees, there will be no cost for the training. If they are over 19 and/or your business has over 50 employees then you will contribute 5% towards the cost of the training. For any businesses paying into the levy, all training costs will be covered.
