Course Overview

This apprenticeship standard is a recognised teaching qualification for QTLS professional formation.
Learning and skills teachers are responsible for planning and delivering learning that is current, relevant, challenging, and that inspires learners to achieve their full potential.
Learning and skills teachers teach children, young people and adults within all parts of the education and training sector, including schools, work-based training provision; further, adult and higher education and the voluntary sector.
The learning and skills teacher role acts as a ‘dual-professional’, having primarily studied a specific vocational or specialised subject. Many teachers in the education and training sector begin teaching as a second career path.

Qualification Achieved

On completion of this Apprenticeship, the learner will hold a Level 5 Learning & Skills Teacher Apprenticeship.

  • Apprenticeship Tutor

Learning & Assessment

Each apprentice will have their own dedicated tutor who will conduct monthly remote tutorials and reviews, providing continuous support throughout the apprenticeship program. Depending on the apprentice’s needs, the frequency of these sessions may vary.

Additionally, each learner will be paired with a workplace mentor who will collaborate with the tutor and learner, offering expertise and guidance to facilitate skill development.

The mentor will provide support, constructive feedback, and assist in various tasks the learner will undertake, such as:

  • Knowledge assignments
  • Case studies
  • Reports
  • Reflective accounts
  • Professional discussions
  • Workplace witness testimonies
  • Observations, either onsite or remote, will be conducted by the tutor as required by the course.

End Point Assessment

Each Apprentice must undergo an independent end-point assessment to determine the outcome of their apprenticeship. The assessments will assess the knowledge, skills and behaviours gained during their programme. The methods in which this apprenticeship are assessed are:

  • Professional discussion
  • Teaching observations

Entry Requirements

Whilst any entry requirements will be a matter for individual employers, typically, an apprentice might be expected to have already achieved ‘A’ levels or equivalent, an existing relevant L3 qualification or relevant experience.

Hire an Apprentice

We can work with you to source a suitable applicant for your organisation or you can up-skill your existing employees. If the employee is under 19 and your business has fewer than 50 employees, there will be no cost for the training. If they are over 19 and/or your business has over 50 employees then you will contribute 5% towards the cost of the training. For any businesses paying into the levy, all training costs will be covered.
