Course Overview
Higher level teaching assistants (HLTAs) do all the things that teaching assistants do, but with an increased level of responsibility. For example, HLTAs may be responsible for covering planned absences, teaching classes on their own, and covering for teachers’ planning and marking time. With the support of a classroom teacher, they will plan, prepare and deliver teaching to classes, or small groups or individuals. They may also manage other staff, lead on projects, communicate with parents and carers, or have a specialist curriculum area. The HLTA programme has been designed to specifically support the development of HLTAs and is a nationally recognised qualification.
